Sunday 11th March, 2007

For one reason or another, we haven't added anything to the diary for a few days.  However, we have decided what to call our birds this year!  The great tits in Box1 are Greta (anagram of Great, and having seen little or no sign of her partner, we have decided she wants to be alone) and Gustaf.  (I'll leave you to work out that one!)

The bluetits in Box2 are to be called Fay and Morgan.  I'm not allowed to tell you the connection here.  Finally, the bluetits in BBB are to be called Abby and Angus.  The connection is even further stretched here and has nothing to do with birds!

A nice image to start the day.  This is either Fay or Morgan coming into land on Box2.

Fay and Morgan are clearly a pair.  Here the male, Morgan, crouches as Fay makes her entrance.

Once Fay has arrived, Morgan doesn't hang around long!

Although we have now named all the main birds, we still haven't decided what names, if any, to give to the bluetit pair that are hanging about Box1.

Here the male is sussing things out again.

 

A few seconds later, he is inside Greta's nest box.

A split second later, the female follows him inside the box ...

... at which point the male leaves.

... leaving the female alone in Greta's nest box.

It is nearly a quarter of an hour later that Greta arrives on the scene bringing some more moss.
