Bluetit Diary    Jan 2008 (6)

Wednesday 30th January, 2008

Elizabeth & I have been worrying about the way Box3 is exposed to the sun's rays.  It faces a bit south of east and so is only just within the preferred sector (from north to south east through east) for nest boxes.  We have had bluetits' eggs laid in the box for the last two years, but we have decided that we should move the box some 10 feet along the wall to get more shade from our neighbours house and at the same time, add an external camera to the set-up.

This is the view of Box3 from the new camera when I put it up yesterday.

On the wall to the right of the box can be seen the remains of a Boston Ivy that unfortunately died a couple of years ago.  Perhaps I ought to clean it off - the wall would look better without it!

Today we were rewarded with a bluetit having a look at the box in its new home.

We're now keeping our fingers crossed that the box gets occupied again  - and that this year the chicks fledge successfully!
