Bluetit Diary    Mar 2008 (12)

Sunday 30th March, 2008

Both Abby and Angus seem to have been around Box3 quite a lot this week.  Perhaps they are getting serious?

I presume that Angus is inside the box waiting for Abby to come in.

The same incident from the top camera.

When she goes in, she keeps well away from Angus by flying off to her left ...

... and he, as was to be expected, leaves immediately.

Over in Box2, Sally has been getting herself in a real muddle with her nesting material.  Here she is coming in with some hay.

She has been bringing in hay for a little while now and it is threatening to get out of hand!

Help! - which way is the exit?

This is still Box2, despite the apparent reduction in nesting material.

Is this the first feed in one of our nesting boxes this season?

Sally looks as though she is back to bringing stuff into her box again.  I wonder why she has suddenly started thinking that hay is the best stuff to use?

She seems to be having a problem actually getting it through the entrance hole.

Eventually she succeeded.  You can see from this shot that it was quite a big bunch of hay.

A rather nice shot of Sally flying off.

This is Box1 where the bluetit still seems to think that he might reoccupy the nest box.

He had better be careful!  Gelda is in the box at the moment.

The bluey sidles up to take a closer look.

Presumably not liking what he saw, he shortly flew away again.

An hour later and he is back for another look.  He's nothing if not persistent!

This time he lands on the entrance hole.

I might have known.  This time the box is empty!

In spite of that, he doesn't dare to go inside.

A short while later he flies off again.

Finally, another picture of Gelda roosting in Box1 at about 20 past 10 in the evening.  We switched the power on briefly to take this picture.
