Bluetit Diary    Mar 2008 (5)

Tuesday 11th March (part2)

Back in Box2, the bluetit is starting to bring in nesting material.  This she actually left in the nest box.  (We know it is a she as males play no part in nest building).

Thirty five minutes later, she was back with another load.  Was this to be the start of the real thing?  Again, she quickly dropped the moss and left the box.

This looks serious - she is back a couple of minutes later with some more.

This time she doesn't seem to know what to do with it.

With a flick of her head, she drops it.

Then she dashes all our hopes by picking the moss up again ...

... and flying out with it!

Four minutes later she is back with more nesting material.  (Or is it the last lot that has just had an airing?)

But this lot doesn't stay inside either.  Here she is flying out with it again.

She doesn't come back to the nest box for some time, but towards the end of the afternoon, she returns with some more moss.  This time she leaves it inside the box and flies off.

Five minutes later she is back with another load - but this time she again doesn't seem to know what to do with it ...

... and ends up by flying out with it.

Well, I suppose it gives her something to do!

Roll on Spring time!
