Bluetit Diary    Apr 2009 (1)

Thursday 2nd April, 2009

Bella is always on the go.  I cannot remember a bluetit that keeps herself as busy as she does!

In comes Bella.

She has a pretty good beakful of moss there.

This is Bertie coming to join her.  Is this a "welcome" or a "go away and leave me alone!" from Bella?

I think it's a welcome - you can see that Bertie has some food for her.  Bella is in a begging posture.

Bella reaches forward to take it.

Bertie's off!

Bella follows him a couple of seconds later.

Nearly a minute has passed and Bella is back with more moss.

What's this?  Is Bertie bringing her more food?

It looks like it - you can see he has something in his beak.

Again, Bella has to reach forward and take it from him.  Perhaps Bertie is still finding it difficult to pass the food to her.

Away goes Bertie!

Bella does a celebratory wriggle ...

... and another.  She must be pleased with herself, and with Bertie!

Only 16 seconds after Bertie left, Bella followed him.

Less than a minute later, Bella is back with another load of moss.

She drops it and has another wriggle before going out for more.

This load took less than 30 seconds to collect - she is in overdrive!

A pause for thought - where is she going to put it?

A couple of minutes later she is back with more!

It looks as though Bertie is pleased with Bella too - you can see that Bella again adopts a begging posture when Bertie comes into the box.

Bertie passes the food less reluctantly this time.

That's three feeds he has given her in about 6 minutes.  Let's hope that that means that he will be a good father too!
