Bluetit Diary    Apr 2009 (15)

Monday 27th April, 2009

The cameras are controlled by a time switch which turns them on at just after 6am each morning.  If we have left the computer running, this will cause a picture to be taken.

As you can see, Fay has already left the nest at this time today.  And can you just make out an egg in the centre of the nest cup?

Bertie brings an early feed for Bella - though for the bluetits, the morning probably started at dawn!

So far Fay appears to be behaving quite normally.  She still brings bedding material into the nest and this is now covered with feathers and bits of white fluff.

Another feed for Bella.  Not a mealworm of course - it is far too early for us to be up at twenty past six in the morning!

Bertie seems to have gone into overdrive as far as feeds are concerned.  If you ignore the ones he has done earlier and count this as feed 1 ...

... feed 2 ...

... feed 3 ...

... feed 4.  That's four feeds in 3½ minutes with no help at all from us!

Bella chose a good mate in Bertie!

The only thing that seems to have stopped this feeding frenzy is Bella leaving the nest box!

Normally her eggs are beautifully laid out but this time they are all higgledy-piggledy!

Bella was out for only just over three minutes.

Almost immediately, Bertie resumes his feeding duties!
