Bluetit Diary    Dec 2008 (1)

Monday 1st December, 2008

We still haven't had a bird go inside any of our boxes since they were cleaned out this autumn.  Many birds have had a look - bluetits, great tits, nuthatches and even a wren, but none has yet taken the next step and explored the box's interior!

Great tit.

Nuthatch.

Elizabeth thinks we should have a caption competition for this picture.  At least they are not trying to get into the bird boxes!

"'Ere, that's my grub!  Get your filthy feet off it!"

No sign of any damage to this bluetit's right wing.

It's over four hours later and the wren is back for a visit.

Oops! He's going inside!!

The side view taken at the same time.

He really is going inside!

The top view of the above.

And then he flies directly onto the small shelf directly beneath the sideways mounted camera!  Not only is he mainly out of view, but those bits we can see are out of focus!

He didn't stay long - the whole visit took only about six seconds ...

... and then he was off!

Still, we've now had the season's first bird in one of our boxes.  Who would have guessed it was to be a wren!  We hadn't even seen one in the garden this autumn until their images were captured by i-Catcher!
