Bluetit Diary    Dec 2008 (4)

Sunday 7th December, 2008

An interesting shot of a bluetit fanning its tail to brace itself against the nest box.  Some years ago in 2003 we had another bluetit that did this that we called Fantail!

This bird didn't enter the box.

Twenty minutes later Box2 has a visit from a great tit.

After a few seconds, it dropped down to the entrance hole.

"This hole's a bit small isn't it?"

Well it is for a great tit - just perfect though for a bluetit!

Still, he has a go!  However, he decided that it was too small for him and flew off shortly after.

Forty minutes later, a coal tit has a look at Box3.  The hole on this box is big enough for a great tit, but that doesn't stop this coal tit for having a look around.

When we saw this shot we though he would go inside the box ...

... but before he thinks about that, he wants to have a good look round.

No.  He doesn't like it!

Four hours later, Box3 has another visitor - one that has been looking at this box before - the wren!

Last time he went inside - albeit for a very short time!  Will he go in again this time?

Perhaps not.

Still, we can always hope ... !
