Bluetit Diary    Mar 2009 (10)

Thursday 19th March, 2009

Bertie appears to have fed Bella in the nest box two times today.

We start with Bella in the nest box on her own.

She is still there when Bertie arrives on the nest box hole ...

... and starts to go into the box ...

... but rather than go inside straight away ...

... he stays blocking the entrance hole.

Then comes a sequence that we don't fully understand.

Suddenly, Bella flies up inside the nest box ...

... but then the next shot shows them with beaks touching.  Bertie appears to be giving Bella some food.

Bertie is still blocking the hole ...

... and Bella appears to be agitated again.

It looks as though Bella doesn't like Bertie blocking her escape hole ...

... and it causes her to fly up and down inside the box in an attempt to escape.

Now we are completely lost ...

... but it seems to end with Bella escaping ...

... and Bertie left alone inside the box.

Bella is certainly keeping busy around her nest box.

However, she is still taking as much out as she brings in.  At least this means that no other bird can slip in unnoticed.

There goes Bella with her nesting material still in her beak.

A left winged wriggle.

More moss.

Now a right winged wriggle.

This time it's hay that she has brought in.

Now it's moss again.

She keeps bringing it in but it never stays there very long!

I wonder if this puzzles Bella too?
