Bluetit Diary    Mar 2009 (2)

Wednesday 4th March, 2009

It's been a lovely day today and as a result our birds have been more active than usual.

A rather fine shot of a flying bluetit.  Pictures like this always make me amazed by the apparent fragility of bluetits' wing feathers.

Bertie and Bella were both to be seen around Box2 today.  Here Bertie is going inside the box.

Bertie in the box.

Along comes Bella - quite what she is doing here I'm not sure!

In she goes.

Bertie lies low - he is keeping out of the way to avoid being hit by Bella as she comes into the box.

What now?  Bella seems to have got distracted!

"Where's she got to now?"

He goes up to look for her and appears reassured.

Yes, Bella is still there.

So Bertie lies low again.

Bella moves closer.

Suddenly, she takes a flying leap into the box.  She barely has time to furl her wings before plunging into the box.

No time for second thoughts here!

So Bella is in the box ...

... which means that Bertie has to go!

Bella doesn't stay long.  Here she is leaving the box only 16 seconds later.

She flies up onto the roof.

She then peers into the box again.  I'm not quite sure why as the box is empty now.

And then she leaves.
