This year the jays have discovered us.  I know a jay has a white rump, but the white feathers on this bird seem to go half way down his tail!

Perhaps the white area is not bigger than normal but this bird holds its wings lower across its back so that the white rump is more exposed than usual.

Squirrels also enjoy the food scattered beside the bird bath.

At least it keeps them off the bird feeding stations!

A nuthatch is interested in Box1

It's having a good look inside too.  The metal plate on this box currently has a hole with a diameter of 30mm so I doubt whether a nuthatch could get inside.

Pity really - it would be nice to have a nesting nuthatch in one of our boxes!

Two jays at the same time today.  Neither looks like the one that came yesterday though - their rump feathers look entirely normal.

They don't appear to be on the best of terms either!
