Bluetit Diary    Mar 2010 (11)

Thursday 25th March, 2010

Today's post is a collection of memorable events and pictures that span the period since my last postings.

Box3 is still being visited, mainly by a bluetit, though we haven't seen any sign of its partner.

The box and its external camera seem ideally placed to capture pictures like this which we don't seem to get from the other cameras.  What wonderful things a bird's feathers are!

Now what's this approaching Box3?

Aha -  a long tailed tit!  Knowing this species' nesting habits I can't see why he is showing any interest in Box3!

Another beautiful shot of a departing bluetit!

Another shot of Sam passing nesting material to Della.  I only hope Sam isn't so confused that he thinks it's food!

Just in case you think nothing is happening in Box1, here is a picture of Donna doing a nesting wriggle.  She and Mick are both still around, though they don't seem quite as active as Sam and Della.

(Yes, we are finding the names of Donna and Della a little confusing too!)

A lovely shot of Sam passing something to Della.  This time it was very small, so perhaps it was food for a change!  He is a very attentive partner and more active in support of his bird than are most males!

Della makes come-on noises and flutters her wings outrageously to beg for food.  It seems to work!

And again, though this time it looks as though it may be grass again!
