Bluetit Diary    Apr 2011 (1)

Sunday 3rd April, 2011

For various reasons, I have not made any diary entries since 14th March.  Over the next few days, I hope to bring you up to date with the progress made in each box in turn.  However, before I do that, on Sunday 3rd April we had a most remarkable happening.

Towards the end of the afternoon, I was about to go downstairs when I looked out of the landing window and saw two bluetits lying on the drive.  Initially, neither bird was moving and I wondered whether they might be dead, but suddenly they twitched and I realised they were in the middle of a fight!

I rushed to get my camera and took this picture.

I then changed the lens so that I could get a close up view of what was happening.

The two birds, locked in their battle, appeared oblivious to the outside world, so I decided to see whether I could get closer to them.

They let me approach until I was standing right over them before suddenly realising I was there and flying away.  I think they were probably Will and Harry having yet another fight!

Less than a minute later, one of our neighbour's cats walked past where they had been lying.  If it had come earlier, it could have had an easy meal and Box3 would possibly have been a failure this year!
