Bluetit Diary    May 2012 (7)

Sunday 6th May 2012

After the disaster with the chick that was thrown out of the nest last Friday, we've been trying to keep an eye out for how many chicks are still alive.  Although there were clearly nine until that incident, on Saturday we could only make out six of them, though presumably there were more than that alive then!

At least there were seven chicks alive at the start of the day on Sunday!  Even this means that another chick died over Friday night and was removed first thing on Saturday morning.

A rather better shot showing seven live chicks.  This was taken in the early afternoon.

Here are seven apparently healthy chicks towards the end of Sunday.

James with seven chicks.  It looks as though the chicks' eyes will be opening soon.  You can see a small slit in the eyebulge of the middle chick at the bottom of the picture.

Again, just the seven live chicks.  This time it is the chick at the top of the picture that shows a small eye slit.  I expect they will be opening properly over the nest few days

Finally, here is a picture of Bob feeding Becky in Box1.  We are expecting her eggs to start hatching on Tuesday 8th May.
