Bluetit Diary    Feb 2016 (3)

Monday 22nd February, 2016

One of the attractions of bluetits is that they are such fearless little birds.  However, I never thought I would see one take on a nuthatch - and win!

This nuthatch is clearly looking for a nesting place and is examining the entrance to Box2.  The hole is much too small for it but it doesn't get a chance to investigate this.

What's this coming?

The nuthatch decides that discretion is the better part of valour ...

..and departs.

This must have been what he saw ...

... the putative box owner.

Into the hole goes the bluetit.

Almost at once, the nuthatch is back.

Both parties are making their intensions pretty clear here!

Of course, the nuthatch cannot see this, but inside the box, the bluetit is displaying like fury!

The nuthatch decided that enough is enough and flies away.

At this stage I had assumed that he had seen the nuthatch off!
