Bluetit Diary    Feb 2016 (2)

Friday 19th February, 2016

Both Box1 and Box2 are getting visitors regularly.  Box3 gets the occasional visitor, but nowhere near as many as the other two boxes.

This is what I think is an older, rather scruffy female in Box2.  She has still got what appears to be a broken feather sticking out of her left hand side.

Box1's visitor looks much more handsome.  Whether this is the male or the female is not yet clear to me.

These are the first two pictures of a sequence of shots showing a bluetit coming to Box1.

In the second, it looks as though it has overshot the entrance hole - perhaps a sudden gust of wind?

These pictures were all taken within a second of each other - this high speed action is only being recorded because of the technology upgrade mentioned earlier in this diary.

It all looks horribly complicated ...

... but (s)he gets there eventually!

In it goes!

Well, was it worth it?

It's now twenty to twelve and a great tit is looking interested in Box1.

Someone's coming.  I'm off!

In come the troops - well one of them anyway!

It's interesting that the great tit, which looks a much heavier and tougher bird than the bluetit, takes off rather than risk a fight.

In it goes and immediately goes on guard.

Looking out from the nest box.
