Bluetit Diary    May 2016 (20)

Wednesday 25th May, 2016

Still 8 chicks - now looking quite black.

Five eggs can be seen here.  This is the largest number I have seen since the eggs finished hatching just 5 short days ago.  It shows that eggs can remain hidden for ages.  Perhaps there are another 5 waiting to show themselves when the chicks have fledged!

It's good to see both Bess and Spikey are both still around (as are the five eggs!)

You can recognise Bess by her wider white head band.

Eight enormous gapes!

Eight gapes and six - yes six - unhatched eggs!  Perhaps it is not quite so ridiculous to suggest there may be more?

Pretty soon, the chicks eyes should start to open.  However, there is no sign of this yet.

Last shot of the day - the chicks look ready for the night but again, there is no sign of mum.
