Ever since the fight in Box1 on 26th April, Box1 has been deserted.

If you compare this image of Box1 with the one taken at the end of the fight on 26th April, and which is shown on the right here, you will see that they are practically identical.  Scanning the stored image files, I can find no instance at all of any bird visiting the box since then.

But what's this?  A visitor to Box1!  Is it male or female?

From this shot of its head feathers it looks like a male.

In this shot, however, it looks more like a female ...

... and in this shot it is most definitely female.  Males don't do nesting wriggles!

Neither do they bring nesting material into the nest box!  Something positive is clearly happening in Box1!

Having decided to complete the nest, she seems to be getting on with it pretty quickly.  This is a huge bunch of moss.

Whether she was involved in the fight of 26th April we shall never know!

By the end of the day, you can see that although progress has been made, there is still some way to go.

Back to Box2, as you can see, Bess and Spikey seem to have accepted each other.  They still squabble occasionally but the amount of time they spend peacefully sitting on the eggs together has significantly increased.

And what an enormous clutch of eggs this is!  We have previously counted 18 eggs, but this could be 19!

Now, you would have thought that one of the occasions when the two females would squabble was when being fed by Hugh.  But not this pair!
Here Hugh has come come with food and is giving it to the nearest female with the other watching - but not interfering.

A few minutes later he is back with more food.  This time the nearest female is head down in the nest cup, so he gives it to the other.

No hassle - no fuss!
