Bluetit Diary    Apr 2003 (25)

Tuesday 22nd April, 2003

The day started with a grey early morning but got better as time passed and by lunchtime was warm and sunny.  Having finished their nests, our bluetits have to find things to pass the time until it's time to start laying.  Fantail is still bringing in feathers and then fussing over where to put them for ages and ages - well several minutes anyway!  Sometimes she takes one out again, but we think there are more ins than outs!

One feather in   ..   ..   ..   ..   ..   and another feather out!

We were out most of the day, leaving i-Catcher to do the work for us, but on looking at the pictures when we returned, it was apparent that nothing of interest had happened.  It's like the calm before the storm that the chicks will inevitably bring when they start hatching.

Fantail came in to roost even earlier tonight.  She came into the box for the last time at about 7.20pm and spent ages fussing around and getting comfortable.  She finally put her head under her wing at 7.44pm.

Fluffy as usual was later, coming into the box for the last time shortly after 8.00pm.  She still hadn't fully settled when we turned out the light at 8.20pm

The forecast for tomorrow is good - the odds for at least one egg must be shortening!
