Bluetit Diary    Feb 2007 (9)

Thursday 22nd February, 2007

Old faithful, the bluetit is back again to check up on Box1.

He doesn't get a chance for a closer look this time and flies away just after this picture was taken.

An hour later, the great tit is inside the box and is clearly getting upset by something.

This time it's another great tit - so I guess that they cannot be a pair!

Eight minutes later, the same display ...

... for the same reason!

Talking of pairs, we already have several obvious pairings in the garden.

First a pair of robins sharing the food at the bird table.

Next a pair of long tailed tits.  These usually travel in a bunch - or whatever a group of LTTs is called!  At the moment, we frequently see just two which perhaps implies a pairing.

Not a pair, but even one nuthatch is worth reporting on.  A pair would be fantastic!

Lastly, a pair of collared doves.  They seem to keep their pair bond up all the year round.  Or is it just that they have a very long breeding season?
