This is Box1, so unless things are going wrong, this must be Keith waiting for Scruffy to arrive.
This is Box1, so unless things are going wrong, this must be Keith waiting for Scruffy to arrive.
In she comes.
Of course Keith immediately goes leaving Scruffy alone in the box.
But is this Scruffy? She looks a bit too smart for that to me.
That's not scruffy enough for Scruffy!
Forty minutes later, Keith is again in the box.
And again, over 40 minutes later.
A quarter of an hour later still, Keith's patience is rewarded. But is it Scruffy who enters the nest box?
I am really uncertain. This is the same bird as in the previous picture, but although she isn't as smart as Keith, she doesn't look as scruffy as Scruffy.
Time will tell! (And what does it matter really - as long as we have a nest full of chicks, I really don't mind!)
At last, a bluetit is bringing nesting material into Box2 Let's call her Lucy and her partner Leo.
Lucy seems a bit reluctant to let go of her load.
Finally, with a flick of her head, she throws it down.
There it goes!
Well, that's made a start.
What's this! I can't remember a coal tit going into any of our boxes before this year. They have looked inside but apart from the brief visit on 8th March, have never entered. I can't imagine it leading to anything though.
